A little bit about me…

My love of drawing and reading began as a young child from the time I could hold a pencil. I drew daily, bringing my notebook and pencil with me wherever I went.  To this day, my tote bag always contains something to draw with, a notebook, and one or two books to read.

When my children came along, I started writing stories and drawing characters for them. I could have never imagined it, but before long my beloved hobby that created joy for my children expanded to a career illustrating for friends, and then later, authors of children’s books. Quickly, illustrating books became something that completely absorbed me. It became what I do, and how I earn my living. Now I can say I am a professional illustrator of several books for authors around the world.

Today, my two children help in the illustration creation process, advising me on what delights and excites them. They are my best critics, and my greatest inspiration.

I still love children’s books and sometimes read them just for myself.  In bookstores, I can spend hours looking at illustrations and discovering new stories. When not drawing or reading, I enjoy practicing yoga and baking sweets.

What my customers say about me

As a textbook publisher, we always make special demands on our artists: the illustrations must not only be appealing, but they also have a didactic purpose. The cooperation with Zuzana Svobodova was perfect: she has sensitively implemented our specifications and transformed them into wonderful drawings that inspire in every way.
Walter Weberpublishing house E. Weber Verlag GmbH, Austria

On my first children’s book, Zuzana was terrific to work with and her illustrations are beautiful. Even when we had different ideas, she worked hard revising the illustrations until I was happy.  Her calm demeanor got us completed on time, love to work with her again!

Becky Cymbalukauthor, Minnesota USA “Super Kena – A Girl Made Fierce with Hearing Aids”

When I first saw Zuzana’s illustrations, I knew I wanted her drawing style in the next book. I succeeded and I’m fully satisfied with the cooperation and the result.

Matej ZámečníkAuthor, Slovakia - Zábudlivé Ginko

I first saw Zuzana’s illustrations displayed on a Facebook group for illustrators and authors.  I immediately recognized the quality was better than most I’d seen and her unique style spoke to me.   I asked her to send a test for “Zetta the Poinsettia.”  Zuzana’s rendering of Zetta (a sympathetic character that is a poinsettia plant with a face and hands, not an easy sketch) was one of five that I considered and when I first saw her test sketch my husband and I both agreed we had found the Zetta in our heads come to life!  Since then, Zuzana has created two other books for me. Each 100 percent beautiful, and all bringing my vision of the characters to life exactly as I had imagined them.  The one’s that have been published so far, went to Best Seller’s lists, and I believe it was Zuzana’s covers that were largely responsible.

Working with Zuzana is a dream. She is talented, creative, imaginative, and flexible.  She is not afraid to modify work or add to work even after milestones have been completed. She understands that often revisions are needed, and despite her living in Slovakia and in the U.S., she is readily available when I need her.

I highly recommend Zuzana for your illustration needs, no matter the type.  She is a true artist and can create whatever you want.  It is just a matter of working together to bring your ideas for your characters to fruition.  Once you have your character developed, Zuzana will take it from there with minimal guidance to make your book sing!

When I saw Zuzana’s illustrations, they grabbed my heart. I knew she illustrates a lot for the kids, but I realized she had a unique style and view at the rendition of things. That was a reason I decided to ask her to try to illustrate the cover for my first novel Now and before. She quickly hit my taste and created a cover that perfectly captures the story of the book. And I guess it is completely different than other book covers, and it identifies the person of the artist well. I am glad I met her and I hope we will create something nice in the future.

Zuzana KolačanováAuthor, Slovakia

Zuzana has illustrated 5 of my books and counting. She has been a pleasure to work with due to her immense talent, excellent communication skills, clear vision for each book and efficiency in which she completes work. My readers adore the vibrant color, detail and overall feel to her artwork. She has breathed life into my words.

Becky CummingsAuthor The Magic of Me series
There were about two hundred illustrators that I was initially looking at when starting my book Lying Lion. I narrowed it down to three. Zuzana Svobodova’ was one of them. After her polite demeanor and great portfolio! I thankfully decided to go with Zuzana! She was easy to work with and always wanted feedback. Zuzana’s style fits perfectly with my idea. She is a consummate professional. Thank you, Zuzana for the wonderful experience!
David BaerAuthor Lying Lion

Hiring Zuzana as our illustrator is the best thing we have ever done for our book series. She does the most beautiful illustrations and we have been nothing but impressed and in awe of her work. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she has been so wonderful to work with. Professional, prompt and always willing to help us with anything we need. Zuzana, we cannot thank you enough for bringing all our characters to life, we are so glad we found you.

Sarah Cullen and Carmen EllisAuthor Ocean Tales Children’s Books series

When I first saw Zuzana’s work, I immediately knew I wanted to collaborate with her on my children’s book series. She is so incredibly talented and wonderful to work with. She really brought my stories to life with such charming characters and details. Zuzana is a creative genius and I highly recommend her!

Gia Lacqua Author Limitless Little Leaders series
