I always giggle when I see shrimps in kids’ books looking like they just jumped out of a frying pan — all pink-orange like the “cooked kind.”

But the truth is: shrimps come in all sorts of outfits — grey, stripy, spotty, even see-through!
Okay, maybe grey isn’t the most glamorous color for a picture book… but hey, better a boring shrimp than a confused kid! What do you think?

Welcome to my head!

This and very similar thoughts swirl endlessly in the mind of a children’s book illustrator. Here’s one more: I once drew a grandma sea turtle, busy knitting — but I started wondering… should her ball of wool float around in the water, or sit politely on the sandy seabed? Oh, now I realize — I should probably crawl out of my doodle bubble and talk to grown-ups more often 😄

My shrimp!

What do you think about my shrimp? I tried my best not to make a ‘cooked’ one, but still in some fancy color. Watch the full process video here! Warning: this one was tricky 🤯, with plenty of awkward moments 😬.

Can’t wait for your thoughts and comments :)))

Pssst . . . I’ve started a mini series with all the weird thoughts and ideas from my doodle world—stay tuned! Coming soon!
