Daily sketching challenge!
I’m super excited to share this news :) Three weeks of daily sketching with my voice-over video tutorials! Start on Monday!
You will improve your drawing, get confidence in your brush strokes and gain skills on how to work with perspective and how to draw different poses with the same character.
Poses will be from the very base to more challenging, but I tried to keep it in a short time, to give you an opportunity to really stay tuned and involved each day.
This challenge goes in three levels, depending on your commitment. Of course, if you go with all 3 levels, you get the most practice.
I prepared different characters for each week. Pillow (you might think it’s super silly, but it can be tricky), the bears, and the mermaids.
Here is the drawing schedule for all levels and for each character:
Monday: pose 1
Tuesday: again pose 1, and new pose 2
Wednesday: again poses 1 and 2, and new pose 3
Thursday: again poses 1, 2 and 3, and new pose 4
Friday: again poses 1, 2, 3 and 4 and new pose 5
Saturday: again poses 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and new pose 6
Sunday: again all poses
I recommend drawing the same poses in a line next to each other and watching your progress. You might be surprised how your drawing improves from day one to the last one.
If you go with Level 2, you will draw the same kind of character, but in more interesting or challenging poses, to improve your skills even better. So it means, on Monday, you draw 2 poses (one from Level 1 and one from Level 2), on Tuesday you repeat 2 Monday poses and draw 2 new poses and so on.
If you go with the Level 3, you get something extra. For the first week, we’ll involve the magical carpet, with the bears, we’ll try more types of faces, and with the mermaid, we’ll focus on different variants and movements of the tail and hair. So it means, on Monday, you draw 3 poses (one from each level), on Tuesday you repeat 3 poses and draw 3 new poses and so on. (If you got lost here, just drop a comment below :) But I will repeat this each Monday.)
Mondays tutorials
For each character, I will post a video with all 6 drawings for each level on Mondays, but you can follow the drawing schedule above. Or you can go at your own pace, start with all poses at the same time and draw all of them each day during the entire week. Or you can skip repating after 2-3 times, it’s up to you. I made that plan to keep you involved during the entire week.
I understand, when you start to count, and on Saturday with Level 3 you should draw 18 poses, and it can seem a lot! However, each pose takes just a few minutes :) But you can adjust the schedule and go with an easier variant.
BUT! … You should squeeze every drop of learning out of this challenge.
Each level will be built in the same way, in these tiers:
For free members: Level 1
For members of the Little Art Club tier: Level 1 and Level 2, plus you will get all final poses from Levels 1 and 2 in JPG, so you can trace the lines first if you struggle here
For members of the Art Adventure tier and higher: all three levels
Practice sheets
Plus, I prepared the full workbook with all poses, each in three steps and some useful tips, in PDF and JPG, so you can print them and draw with a pencil over them, or put them into your canvas and practice digitally. Perfect for improving your skills.
Awesome practice and variability!
This kind of drawing challenge I’m planning to do also in the future, we will focus on different kinds of animals, different shapes and sizes. So gradually you gain sketching skills with more types of characters, and you will be able to apply those principles to many more kinds.
For example, drawing principles for the bear you can apply to rhinoceros, hippo, elephant… of course, with adjustments that individual species need, but the basis will be very similar, and it will be easier for you to work with different poses, because you will already have some experience in this kind of size and shape.
Let’s chat!
