Mermaids Stylised Poses / Sketching Study

Hey, my lovely Patreons, it’s been a while, I know. Summer time, a lot of work, so super hustle weeks. And since I don’t want to move the mermaid sketching to upcoming months again, I decided to prepare at least a shorter version for you :) So you don’t have to follow the former schedule, but still, I recommend sketching and drawing every day, at least for a few minutes.

Some notes. . .

• I’m drawing on 10×5 inches, but mostly just because I always draw on the big canvas, just in case I want to print my art later, but it’s not necessary for sketching practice. More about canvas sizes and thoughts on this topic you can check out here!

• I’m using Procreate, but you can use any app you want, also any brush you like. I use Dry Ink from the Inking group for sketching, and for shade, Gloaming Brush from the Drawing group.

• For all levels, I recommend trying to sketch slightly different mermaids in the second round, trying to switch the hair or tail/fin to the other side or change direction, trying to exaggerate movement and shapes even more, playing with the hair and tail flow and so on. But keep an eye on some principles I shared in the tutorials or Workbook.

• I’ll also show you a quick shading, so try to make more variants of shading, play here with the colors and highlights…
